Sivananda Medical Mission

The Sivananda Medical Mission

For the rural population in India there is a great lack of doctors, nurses and modern equipment. Private treatment is unaffordable for most people.

Mobile Medical Care

This project was launched in 2015 on the initiative of Dr Narayanswami, trustee of the Sivananda Ashram and founder and CEO of Vikram Group of Hospitals in Madurai, Tamil Nadu, South India. After receiving a generous donation from a Canadian devotee, a medical van was purchased and one doctor and two nurses were employed. They conduct daily visits in many villages around the city of Madurai, bringing basic medical diagnosis, treatment and advice to the rural population.

Sivananda Yoga Rural Medical Camp

People with more complicated conditions are brought by buses to a monthly medical camp, which is held in a property nearby the Sivananda Ashram. Specialised doctors from the Madurai City Hospital volunteer their service in orthopaedics, gynaecology, ophthalmology, dental problems and other specialisations.

Funding the Project

The monthly cost for the daily tour of the Sivananda medical van and the Sivananda Medical Camp is €2,000. Please give generously towards this project. All donations are welcome.

The Sivananda Medical Mission

For your donation to reach this project in the most direct way with the necessary transparency towards the authorities both in Europe and in India, the Sivananda Medical Mission was founded in February 2018. This association based in Geneva, Switzerland, has the sole purpose of organising and funding medical care for the rural population in India. The Sivananda Medical Mission is supervised by the directors of the Sivananda Centres in Europe. The donations are transferred directly to the account of the Sivananda Yoga Rural Camp in Madurai, India, on a regular basis.

Transparency

Donors can be individual persons as well as firms or institutions. The Sivananda Medical Mission can accept a donation only after receiving the full name and postal address of the donor. The name has to match the name of the owner of the bank account from which the donation will be sent.
